"Tegan and Sara, in good health!"

Ok, concert time.  My camera is a piece of shit, and I was maybe 8th row back, so the videos are not the best quality (sound is actually pretty good though).  First opening act was Girl In A Coma, who I have loved forever and did an amazing job.  They sang mostly new stuff (and none of my 2 favorites, "Sybil Vane Was Ill" or "Road To Home") and it was so fast paced.

Next up was City and Color, which was a man named Dallas singing acoustic songs.  I thought he did a great job, but the order of the opening bands was completely off.  Girl In A Coma got the crowd HYPED, and then he gets on and puts everyone to sleep.

Now on to the main attraction.  Tegan and Sara came out and were fantastic.  They told funny stories, sang new songs, sang their best songs, and just gave a thoroughly enjoyable concert experience.  Pictures came out very, VERY bad so, I will just show you how great it was.

I had the extreme fortune of seeing them live on Friday for the first time.  Pictures/videos (a lot of videos) will be up by the end of the week.

I left the Mad Decent Block Part before Rye Rye came on to perform, but I just saw this video.

She performed a mix of "Wassup Wassup" and "Shake It To The Ground".

Philly

YoYoYoYoYo was named one of the best albums in 2006/2007 for upcoming hip hop, and it rightly deserves that title.  While Spank Rock's newest EP (with Benny Blanco) "Bangers and Cash" is much more sexual, YoYoYoYoYo added a lot more beats.

For instance, in "Touch Me", one of my favorites, at one point there are so many instruments going at once it sounds like a huge party.  The panther roar sample in the background every once in a while makes me hooked on this song.

The girl rapping about "flashing my tits" may or may not be another reason to love it.

Films

I saw my first movies for the 2008 Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Fest yesterday.  I was slightly disappointed with the first one "Sugar Rush".

"Sugar Rush explores the world of Kim and her earth-shattering lust for the gorgeous and sassy Maria Sweet, otherwise known as Sugar.

And if Sugar wasn't enough to blow Kim's mind, there's also her dysfunctional, embarrassing family - a mini-freak for a brother, an obsessively house-proud dad and a mum who's behaving as if she's the one who's 15 years old.

Each episode is a different journey inside Kim's world as her wry observations take us into the mind of a screwed up, loved up, lustful adolescent experiencing the bright lights of Brighton and the rush of forbidden love for the first time." - E4 London

Ok, so that all SOUNDS nice and sweet.  The only thing is since it is a TV show, they only had three episodes mashed up into a movie, and the ending was non existent.  The acting was very good though, (despite the fact that one of the actresses looked a helluva lot like Lindsay Lohan...) so I was happy about that.  The lust of wanting someone straight is something most gays and lesbians can relate too, and I thought Sugar Rush portrayed that very well.

The other movie I saw was a collection of short films called "Puppy Love (and Lust): Gay Shorts about Adolescence".  I thought it was very good, and the fact that the adolescent gay mentality is not too far in my past, I thought it would be adorable to see these.  What I didn't expect were the throngs of old men watching these 16-18 year old boys make out.  Too many short films to comment on, but "Le Baiser" (The Kisser, translated for the fest as "Romeo and Juliet") was definately a favorite of mine.  Take the french language, shakespeare, 2 french boys playing Romeo and Juliet as a stage test, and I will be a happy guy.  Also, "Secrets" (pictured above) was intense to watch, with a lot of unexpected twists at at popular "Hills-esque" party.
