That was a hiatus alright. I decided since I have lots of free time now in NYC (and am using Google AdSense to make some extra cash) I should start up the music blog again.

So, most interestingly in music lately is Major Lazer, friend of Diplo crew. Seriously, have you heard "Pon di Floor"? Amazing.

I never really got into Uffie but this song my roommate keeps on repeat constantly.

They're baaaaaack. t.A.T.u.'s new mostly russian album "Happy Smiles" is thankfully on itunes. It is by far the best thing they have ever done, experimenting with so many different styles on one CD. I have loved them for a long time, and hearing all of these new songs makes me love them even more. Last time I checked this album was number 24/100 on the top 100 pop albums in iTunes. THATS INCREDIBLE being as it was released yesterday in Russia, with no promo, and no links.

Please, I beg that you all go and buy "Happy Smiles" from iTunes. It isn't available in America yet, but later this year the full english album will be released. Just get it!

The time has come. Yelle was in the top 5 best concerts I have ever been to.

Kap10Kurt was the first opening act. They played a great show packed with energy and no one could stand still for it. It was great to get really pumped before Yelle.

Next was Funeral Party. They were great too, just a little too much screaming to be opening for Yelle. I liked their energy, they got the crowd jumping.

Finally, finally Yelle came on and opened with Tristesse/Joie. I haven't heard that much screaming in so long. She continued with most of her hits like "Mal Poli", "Jogging", and "Ce Jeu". "Dans Ta Vraie Vie" was one of my favorite performances that night. The girl wouldn't stop moving! The encore was the best, it was a rock version of "Je Veux Te Voir" and it couldnt have been better.

I got a bunch of amazing pictures and ok videos. Tepr and Grand Marnier did a fantastic job as well, they really make an amazing trio.

A friend of mine is having a crazy rave party, so I was asked to make a playlist. I automatically thought of the Tepr remix of Say Aha by Santogold, but there were so many parts of it that are too slow. I can't remix anything for shit, but I tried to take out the slow parts and smooth it down.

Ok, concert time. My camera is a piece of shit, and I was maybe 8th row back, so the videos are not the best quality (sound is actually pretty good though). First opening act was Girl In A Coma, who I have loved forever and did an amazing job. They sang mostly new stuff (and none of my 2 favorites, "Sybil Vane Was Ill" or "Road To Home") and it was so fast paced.

Best picture I got with my shit camera.

Next up was City and Color, which was a man named Dallas singing acoustic songs. I thought he did a great job, but the order of the opening bands was completely off. Girl In A Coma got the crowd HYPED, and then he gets on and puts everyone to sleep.

Now on to the main attraction. Tegan and Sara came out and were fantastic. They told funny stories, sang new songs, sang their best songs, and just gave a thoroughly enjoyable concert experience. Pictures came out very, VERY bad so, I will just show you how great it was.

Wow. I was messaged a few days ago from Jonathan from Color Radio asking to check out their music. I figured it would be pretty good, but I was not expecting it to be THIS good.

Sounding like a perfect mix of Aqualung, Coldplay, and Arctic Monkeys, Color Radio could easily be the next hot band in music. Their two songs up "Yellow Jackets" (my favorite) and "While We Wait" are perfect in every way. The beat, the vocals, the lyrics, it all just mixes in and fits wonderfully.

Their first CD is out September 5th, entitled Feeling Like You Used To and I for one, am very excited to hear more from Color Radio.

I'm taking a slight break from my insane workload of things to do before I move to NYC on monday for college, to bring you this.

Little Jackie (the collaboration between singer Imani Coppola and DJ Adam Pallin) is all over the place this summer. I was in a hotel room with some friends and "The World Should Revolve Around Me" came on. My friend Sarah and I turned to each other in one of those movie-perfect-turns and sat glued to the TV until the song was over.

Her rhymes are fun and strong and her voice is just indescribable.

J'ai trouvé un tres bon morceau.

Zouglou is a type of dance music (and dance?) found in Africa, specifically in Côte d'Ivoire. Imagine that really popular Calabria 2007 song by Enur (which I think is pretty good actually) but with African guys and a better beat.

Magic System made "Joie De Vivre" meaning "Joy of Life". Its such a good dance song and the Zouglou dance style of music is infectious.

Only problem is all I could find is a jacked up mp3 of it, so here is the song. The last 15 seconds just skips to the end always, but you can get the idea.

Ok.  I found the best end of summer jam/club track.  Only thing is, I am very confused about it.

C'est morceau est en francais et anglais. Le titre est "Discobitch".  C'est un collaboration de Laurent Konrad (un DJ) et Kylian Mash....QUI?  Je ne suis pas le mieux a francais, et rien de place a des information pour "Kylian Mash".

This song is in French and English.  It has a hot beat, and the girl (Kylian Mash) sounds like a mix between Yelle, Lady GaGa, and Peaches.  The lyrics in both english and french are funny, witty, and about being drunk.

I have no information on this group though and literally can't find anything.  Discobitch is the official project name, a collaboration between Laurent Konrad and Kylian Mash.

Thanks again to Pete Wentz for showing his thousands of teenage girl fans some new music. Only thing is I'm not sure if its good.

Chantal Claret is the lead singer of Morningwood and when I saw them opening for Gang Of Four in 2005 I was amazed. She stripped, she screamed, she danced and actually upstaged the main act. "Jetsetter" and "Take off your clothes" were my anthems for the longest time. I loved the intensity of it, the power of her voice.

This new song "Sugarbaby" has all the makings of a great song. Except for the chorus. The guitar solos and hard drums are definate Morningwood style. The beginning is great and the verses are spot on. The chorus to me though sounds like every other "edgy" girl on the radio though.

I'm still undecided on it, I know I can't stop listening at the very least.

I was wondering what my favorite plus sized lesbian was up to lately, so I did a little research. Beth Ditto, fantastic lead singer for the Gossip always has amazing live shows. I saw her in London last May, and got on stage with her (along with the entire crowd) for "Standing In The Way Of Control". I even managed to get a small, sweaty, out of focus picture with her.

Anyway, other than the fact that they are touring all over the country, I couldn't find anything new. I am pretty sure there is a new album in the works, since I heard 2 new songs in London and found a third one on YouTube.

I can't help it! I love Lady GaGa. She really takes "guilty pleasures" to a whole new level.

She performed on the NewNowNext Awards in June and that is when I decided "Just Dance" would be my summer jam.

Her album, The Fame, is out in October (way too far away), and already about 80% of the album has leaked. I can't really get into most of the songs, but "Love Games" is really fun.

YoYoYoYoYo was named one of the best albums in 2006/2007 for upcoming hip hop, and it rightly deserves that title. While Spank Rock's newest EP (with Benny Blanco) "Bangers and Cash" is much more sexual, YoYoYoYoYo added a lot more beats.

For instance, in "Touch Me", one of my favorites, at one point there are so many instruments going at once it sounds like a huge party. The panther roar sample in the background every once in a while makes me hooked on this song.

The girl rapping about "flashing my tits" may or may not be another reason to love it.

I turned on LOGO last night and I saw on NewNowNext Logan Lynn's music video for "Feed Me To The Wolves". For the first minute I was a little worried, since the beat and vocals didn't sound that great. The last video on NewNowNext that I saw was "Faggoty Attention" by some guy. (Needless to say, not a very good song). Now that I gave this song a proper listen, it won't get out of my head. It really reminds me of Magnetic Fields, and I think the way this song is made is brilliant.

Just when I thought I couldn't love Santogold anymore, she went and did this. Last month I saw Adele in Philly and it was beautiful. I met her with my friend and she sat and talked with us for a few minutes. She was the nicest celebrity I have met yet (next to Jay Brannan) and her song "Hometown Glory" is the saddest song I have heard in a while.

Santogold was on BBC Radio 1 the other day and had a nice chat with host Jo Whiley. She sang "Lights Out" and got to choose a cover. She sang Adele's "Hometown Glory" and made it very dark and brooding.

The presenter wasn't kidding. My friend and I got to Central park at about 2:00, and there were 200+ people in front of us. I assumed I wouldn't even be getting into the venue (not realizing how big it was). I squeezed my way to about 5th row, and waited for the show to start.

I'm gonna have a lot to write about.

Mz Streamz

About 6 teenage girls came running out on stage and started dancing while DJ Blaqstarr was spinning. I thought they were just a dance team, but then 2 girls grabbed a mic and started performing.

I only had videos of them dancing to a backing track of their song. I thought I recorded "Tear It Up", a really good Bmore club track featuring DJ Sega, but apparently I didn't. They killed it, and I am looking for more of their songs, and can't really find any. I read somewhere that they filmed a video recently and have a mixtape coming out soon.

Blaqstarr came on and played some of the best baltimore club music I have ever heard. I always love Blaqstarr mixes and the entire crowd was going crazy for "Hands Up, Thumbs Down". He sampled some M.I.A. and Bonde Do Role (possibly a new song?). Kid Cudi came on as a special guest, and he was alright. I wasn't too into him, but I did manage to get a picture with him. I'll be checking out his songs later this week to see what I think. This is also around the time I may or may not have passed out for a second from the heat, so I had to make my way to the back of Summerstage so I could cool down (which is why I have no good pictures from this event).

Hands down favorite DJ. The fact is he is extremely talented, good looking, brings the best unknown music acts into the spotlight, and dated M.I.A. for a while. He played a bunch of my favorites (his Golddiger Mix and Stronger Mix) and he sample The Gossip, which was a nice suprise. He played for about an hour and a half (splitting the stage with A Trak, who was pretty damn good too) and it was great. This is what everyone was waiting for. She walked right by me going backstage, but had her headphones in. When she came on, all of Summerstage exploded. She started with "You'll Find A Way (Switch remix)" and went on to sing "LES Artistes", "Starstruck", "Anne", "Unstoppable", and a few others. She ended with "Creator" and it was really good. She was really interactive with the first few rows (and I was extremely jealous of them). Her backup dancers were PERFECT. I was too far to get good video, but I recorded some live audio. More will come later.

Vraiment, quand 3 de mon artistes préfère rap dans un chanson, je suis très très heureux. Voilà "Lettre F" un collaboration avec Cuiziner (de TTC), Spank Rock, et Pase Rock. Ceci n'est pas un nouveau chanson, mais je ne peux pas arrête d'écouter. Alors, ne vous inquietez pas. C'est bilingue, en francais et anglais.

I love when 3 of my favorite rappers are on one song. Here is "Lettre F", a collaboration with Cuiziner, Spank Rock, and Pase Rock. It's not a new song, but I can't stop listening to it. Oh, and don't worry, its in French and English too.

Santogold and Diplo - Guns Of Brooklyn

"Guns of Brooklyn" is already all over the interweb. This song is so mellow, you can't help but love it. Right after I got it I played it on repeat for ten minutes. Normally with Diplo I would have expected a crazy fast beat, but I like this change of pace.

Gorilla Zoe, Santogold, and M.I.A. - Get It Up (Radioclit Remix)

The first two minutes of this song I'm not sure about. I love rap, and I love rap even more over strange beats that you wouldn't hear everyday. But Gorilla Zoe (who I have never heard of) just does not seem to fit in this song. After listening to it all the way through, I usually skip to Santogold's part.

That being said, usually I can't get enough of Santogold, but this is one of my least favorite songs she is in. For me, M.I.A. rules this song. "Get it up, you can get it up!" Then again, her tracks are always hot.

Last night was Chris Garneau live at Joe's Pub in NYC. We got there and all the tables were already reserved, so we had to stand in the back.

Around 7:00 Olafur Arnalds came on. He finished his first song at 7:15. There were no words. I am all about beautiful music, but 15 minutes of a piano and some instruments as ONE song, I could have done without that. After 45 minutes (I think he played 4 songs.) he left and Chris got on the stage. He started off with a new very sad song that he played on an accordion-esque instrument. It was very good.

He ended up playing a very short set because another band was scheduled to perform basically RIGHT after him. Some songs included "Relief", "Baby's Romance" and "In the Afternoon", one of his new songs. He had a cover section too and did "Crazy" and "Walking After Midnight" by Patsy Cline.

After the show, my friend and I stuck around to meet him. I got a picture with him, told him how beautiful he sang, got a t-shirt, and was on my way. This was a great concert night.

Marina is on fire!

Ever since hearing that MC Marina left Bonde do Rolê, I wondered what they were gonna do. Marina MADE that group, giving her ridiculously loud and dancey vocals, screaming out dirty portuguese words.

Well it turns out MC Pedro and DJ Gorky turned to MTV Brazil to make a new reality show where they look for a new member. Apparently, 2 girls won, and now there are 4 of them. I think one's name is Ana.

Still though, I feel like no one can compare to Marina's energy. Possibly if they record new stuff together, but all of Marina's songs (aka all of the songs they have made so far) can never be sang by anyone else.

After getting directions to "the ferry" from my TomTom, I drove for about 2 hours to "Staten Island". The reason they are in quotes is because TomTom (which I am getting rid of ASAP) gave me directions to where the ferry lets off... in NYC. The whole reason I was taking the ferry is because I cannot drive in the city, it is too frustrating. So after about an hour of being lost in the city (oh, did I mention TomTom doesn't work in the city? The buildings throw off the signal) we found a parking garage and ended up spending about 20 bucks, while the ferry would have been free. My two friends and I spent about 2 hours wandering the city, getting some prime purchases at Canal Street, and then headed over to the Highline Ballroom. We got in and were required to buy some food (10 dollar minimum, how nice of them) so we sat and waited. Chris Pureka was the opening act.

She was pretty good (the lighting was so bad on her though, all of my pictures were too blurry) although I can never fully appreciate an opening band, since I get too impatient waiting for the main act. Her one song "You Don't Know Me" was pretty good. At least that is what I think it was called. Check her out.

Jay Brannan! He came on and told a bunch of jokes, stories, and sang a little of Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This". He was extremely entertaining. One story had to do with all of 7th Ave filled with trannies that fought each other. He "swore to god" it was true, an entire block full of trannies stopping traffic, yelling "Hold my bag, hold my bag!". A video of that will be coming shortly.

He played all of my favorites, minus "Body's a Temple". "Soda Shop" was probably the highlight, since it is his most known song. The whole crowd was extremely receptive and he seemed like he had a great time. He also played "Housewife", "At First Sight" (including him asking the audience to play percussion for him. It sort of worked), and "Straight Outta Compton" (as requested by my friend). For some of the songs, he had a cello player and a violinist, which he hadn't done before.

We stayed after and waited near the huge line (not in it of course) to meet him. We were the last people he saw, and he didn't seem too happy to have that many people talk to him. Regardless, he gave us all hugs, thanked us for coming, and chatted for a minute or two. He was very nice, so I was happy about that.

Je Ne Te Connais Pas

So I was watching TV for about 2 minutes while I was eating, and I saw a new BMW commercial. It was pretty ordinary except for the fact it had "Je Ne Te Connais Pas" by Prototypes as its music. They are a french band that has been around for years (Apple featured their song "Whos Gonna Sing?" on an iPod Shuffle commercial) and they are starting to get more popular. Most of the french bands I listen to are either hip hop or electronic (a la Yelle, TTC, Omnikrom, etc) but Protoypes combine rock and electronic beats perfectly. Also, if you can find it online, which I can't, listen to "06 60 92 92" by Prototypes, its my favorite song.

I saw my first movies for the 2008 Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Fest yesterday. I was slightly disappointed with the first one "Sugar Rush".

"Sugar Rush explores the world of Kim and her earth-shattering lust for the gorgeous and sassy Maria Sweet, otherwise known as Sugar.

And if Sugar wasn't enough to blow Kim's mind, there's also her dysfunctional, embarrassing family - a mini-freak for a brother, an obsessively house-proud dad and a mum who's behaving as if she's the one who's 15 years old.

Each episode is a different journey inside Kim's world as her wry observations take us into the mind of a screwed up, loved up, lustful adolescent experiencing the bright lights of Brighton and the rush of forbidden love for the first time." - E4 London

Ok, so that all SOUNDS nice and sweet. The only thing is since it is a TV show, they only had three episodes mashed up into a movie, and the ending was non existent. The acting was very good though, (despite the fact that one of the actresses looked a helluva lot like Lindsay Lohan...) so I was happy about that. The lust of wanting someone straight is something most gays and lesbians can relate too, and I thought Sugar Rush portrayed that very well.

The other movie I saw was a collection of short films called "Puppy Love (and Lust): Gay Shorts about Adolescence". I thought it was very good, and the fact that the adolescent gay mentality is not too far in my past, I thought it would be adorable to see these. What I didn't expect were the throngs of old men watching these 16-18 year old boys make out. Too many short films to comment on, but "Le Baiser" (The Kisser, translated for the fest as "Romeo and Juliet") was definately a favorite of mine. Take the french language, shakespeare, 2 french boys playing Romeo and Juliet as a stage test, and I will be a happy guy. Also, "Secrets" (pictured above) was intense to watch, with a lot of unexpected twists at at popular "Hills-esque" party.

I first saw him in John Cameron Mitchells "Shortbus" playing Ceth. I usually don't like too much acoustic music, but he is definately a wonderful singer. His lyrics are real, and he has something many people do not: talent. Not to mention he is easy on the eyes.

This is more my usual pace. Every blog in the internetz has talked about Santogold, so I am pretty late in the game. I first saw her at M.I.A.'s show in Philly last december, and she blew the crowd away. I have never seen an artist mix so many elements together. Her cd "Santogold" has about 9 different genres of music on it. Her voice is real clashy and her beats will make you either want to dance A LOT or relax A LOT. Her concert is free, and she is playing with DIPLO, another of my favorites. Elle est un fille pour mon coeur. Yes yes yes.
